The Isle of Skye is the largest and most northerly large island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Residents number approx. 10,000 and a third speak Gaelic. The climate is mild, wet and windy.
Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan has been used in many films, perhaps the most famous being “Highlander”. It also featured in the James Bond film “The World is not Enough”. Most recently it featured in the film “Maid of Honour.”Eilean means island, and indeed, The castle perches in a tiny island in the middle of Loch Duich, a long bay snaking in from the sea. At low tide, one can walk down along its perimeter, but the seaweed is treacherous, so it is not safe. There is access by a long bridge, and at high tide, the water runs through it.
